Washington and Lee University requires each member of the first-year class to complete AlcoholEdu(TM) for College–an online, non-judgmental alcohol prevention program. A health-education tool used on over 500 campuses nationwide, the course applies science-based research to educate students about alcohol and its effects. Whether you drink or not, AlcoholEdu for College empowers you to make well-informed decisions about alcohol, and helps you better cope with the drinking behavior of your peers.

The course has two sections, both of which must be completed to fulfill this requirement:

• Part 1 of the course takes approximately 2 hours to complete, and we recommend that you take it in multiple sittings. You must earn a grade of 75 or higher to pass and receive credit for the course. This section must be completed before arrival for first-year orientation. 
• About 45 days after you complete Part 1, you will receive an email asking you to complete Part 2. Failure to complete the course will result in your inability to register for winter-term courses.

AlcoholEdu for Parents

Washington and Lee provides the parent module of AlcoholEdu to the parents of incoming first-year students to equip you to start conversations with your student and to inform you about the realities of college alcohol use.
