
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Washington and Lee men’s swimming team competed in its third day of the 2008 Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships on Thursday in Charlotte, N.C., at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Club. The Generals are currently in second place through 14 events, trailing current leader Wingate, 547-439.
The Blue and White were led by the second-place finishing 800 free relay. Seniors Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) and Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro), and juniors Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) and junior Chris Diebold (Platte City, Mo./Landsdale Catholic) teamed up to finish the event in a time of 6:52.85 (NCAA “B” cut).
W&L also posted several solid individual performances on the day, including notching third, fourth and sixth place in the finals of 100 free. Sweet took the bronze with an NCAA “B” cut time of 1:42.22, while Crook followed in fourth with a “B” cut time of 1:42.38 and McGlaston was sixth (1:43.54).
W&L returns to action on Saturday for the final day of the conference meet at 10:30 am.
