W&L Men's Swimming Finishes Eighth Overall at NCAA Championships

OXFORD, Ohio – The Washington and Lee men’s swimming team completed action at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday evening at Miami University. The Generals finished eighth overall with 143 points.

Kenyon College claimed the title with 635 points, while Johns Hopkins (330), Denison (314.5), Emory (261), Williams (211), St. Olaf (178), The College of New Jersey (157), W&L (143), NYU (139) and Amherst (131) rounded out the Top 10.

Senior Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) completed his stellar championship by finishing fourth in the 100 free (44.83) to garner First Team All-America laurels. He also set a new school record in the preliminaries with a time of 44.51. Senior Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) finished 15th overall in the 100 free (45.96) en route to earning Honorable Mention All-America accolades.

The Generals completed the championship event with a sixth-place finish in the 400 free relay to edge NYU for eighth-place. W&L completed the event in a school-record time of 3:02.53, while McGlaston led off the relay with the second-fastest 100 free in school history (45.41). He was joined on the relay team by sophomore Brandon Barnds (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee), junior Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) and Sweet. All four earned First Team All-America honors for their performances.

W&L, which tied its top-ever finish in the NCAA Championships, has now concluded its season.
