LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior midfielder Tommy Pignatelli (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) registered an assist in the first half and a goal in the second period to lead the Washington and Lee men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over cross-town, Division I rival Virginia Military Institute on Tuesday afternoon at Patchin Field.

The Generals (4-1-1), who have defeated the Keydets for the second-straight year, jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of play when first-year midfielder Timothy Bouch (Charleston, S.C./Porter-Gaud) netted his first collegiate goal off of a Pignatelli assist.

W&L then extended its lead in the second half when Pignatelli scored off of a senior forward Whitt Larkin (Arlington, Va./Episcopal) assist at 47:47 en route to the two-goal victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ben Bartlett (Towson, Md./McDonogh) played the full 90:00 and stopped six would-be goals for the Generals, while sophomore Brian Sowell also played the entire contest and registered three saves for VMI (0-6).

The Generals return to action on Saturday when they travel to Roanoke for a 3:00 pm contest.
