H-SC Defeats W&L, 2-0, in Men's ODAC Soccer Action

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – The Hampden-Sydney men’s soccer team tallied a goal in the first and second halves en route to a 2-0 shutout over Washington and Lee on Wednesday afternoon at Miller Field.

The Tigers (9-5-1, 4-3-1) got on board in the 17th minute of the contest when sophomore defender Matt Swaney made good on a penalty kick. Junior forward Will Robertson then added an insurance goal at the 56:31 mark off of an assist from first-year midfielder Bryan Wharton for the two-goal triumph.

Sophomore Ben Bartlett (Towson, Md./McDonogh) played the duration between the pipes for W&L (8-4-2, 3-4-1) and stopped four would-be goals, while sophomore John Robert Plyler also played 90 minutes and recorded one save for the Tigers.

W&L returns to action on Saturday when it hosts ODAC-foe Virginia Wesleyan for an 11:00 am contest.
