LEXINGTON, Va. – Junior forward Brandon Massie (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) tallied a hat trick to lead Virginia Wesleyan to a 3-1 victory over Washington and Lee in ODAC men’s soccer action on Saturday morning at Watt Field.

The Marlins (8-6-1, 7-6-1) got on board first when Massie found the back of the net off of an assist from first-year midfielder Kevin Maslyn (Centreville, Va./Centreville) at 25:41. Massie struck again in the 36th minute with an unassisted marker to give VWC a 2-0 lead at the half.

Senior midfielder John Lindsay (Cockeysville, Md./Loyola Blakefield) opened up the second half scoring when he blasted an unassisted shot past VWC first-year goalkeeper Ryan Zmuda (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) at 56:25 to slice the Marlins’ lead to 2-1. However, Massie slipped his third unassisted goal of the game past W&L sophomore netminder Ben Bartlett (Towson, Md./McDonogh) at 66:12 and the Marlins held on for the two-goal triumph.

Zmuda played 90 minutes between the pipes and registered four saves for the Marlins, while Bartlett also played the duration and recorded eight saves for the Generals (8-5-2, 3-5-1).

W&L returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Randolph for a 4:00 pm game.
