HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. – Senior midfielder Jason Powell tallied the game-winner in the first half as the fourth-seeded Hampden-Sydney men’s soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over fifth-seeded Washington and Lee in the ODAC quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Miller Field.
H-SC quickly got on board when junior forward Will Robertson connected with Powell, who slipped a shot past W&L sophomore goalkeeper Ben Bartlett (Towson, Md./McDonogh) at the 1:30 mark and the Tigers held on for the shutout.
Sophomore John Robert Plyler played 90 between the pipes for H-SC and recorded three saves, while Bartlett also played the duration and stopped five would-be goals for the Generals.
With the win, the Tigers (12-5-1) advance to the ODAC semifinals, while the Generals end the season with a 9-6-2 overall record.
