

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- The W&L field hockey team dropped a hard fought contest to McDaniel, 2-1 in a shootout, on Saturday.
McDaniel’s (2-2) Amanda Pickard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) opened the scoring at the 28:14 mark of the first half to put the Green Terror up 1-0 heading into the break.
W&L (0-3) evened the match when first-year forward Christina Benedetti (Derwood, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) connected for her first career goal off a feed from sophomore midfielder Emily Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) with just over three minutes remaining.
Following two scoreless overtime periods, the game moved to penalty strokes. Over the course of two rounds McDaniel was able to connect on five strokes, while W&L came up just short with four.
Junior goalkeeper Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes) played the entire game in goal and recorded 15 saves as the Generals were outshot 22-9.
W&L returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Johns Hopkins in a game to be played at Stevenson College (formerly Villa Julie). Game time is set for 11:00 am.
