

LEXINGTON, Va. – The W&L field hockey dropped a 2-0 decision to Sewanee on Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Generals fall back to .500 on the year at 7-7, while Sewanee improves to 8-6.
The first half was played as evenly as one would expect from a pair of teams entering the contest with identical 7-6 records, with neither team able to net a goal despite several opportunities for both sides.
The Tigers opened the scoring at the 46:18 mark when senior Claiborne Buckingham (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) scored off a penalty corner. Senior Elizabeth Wilber (Gettysburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) was credited with the assist. Sewanee’s second goal came at the 51:00 minute mark when senior Lynn Hancock (Paris, Ky./Foxcroft) scored off an assist from sophomore Caitlyn McNaughton (Middleburg, Va./Foxcroft).
W&L, despite holding a 20-6 advantage in shots, was unable to net a goal, as Sewanee senior Clarkie Crawford (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate) made eight saves for the Tigers. Junior Caroline Habliston (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes) was credited with two saves for the Generals.
W&L is in action on Wednesday when it travels to Randolph-Macon for a 4:00 pm game.
