
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Washington and Lee women's tennis players represent three of the four competitors in the semifinals of the main draw at the Wilson ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championships as senior Kelly Will (Holly Springs, N.C./Cary Academy), junior Katie Tabb (Minneapolis, Minn/Edina) and sophomore Lauren Caire (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) all advanced on Sunday.
The sixth-seeded Will takes her place in the semifinals after a win over Washington College's Allison Daciek, 6-3, 6-4, in the round of 16, and a victory over Kelly Hart of Carnegie Mellon, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.
Tabb, the draw's second seed, notched victories over Mary Washington's Rebecca Morse-Karzen, 6-4, 6-2, in the round of 16 and Johns Hopkins' Anita Brahmidipati, 6-2, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. Will and Tabb will meet in the semifinals on Monday at 8:00 am.
Ninth-seed Caire also tallied wins over UMW's Courtney Goimarac, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 16 and Virginia Wesleyan's Imee Bautista, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals. Caire will play top-seed Amy Staloch (Carnegie Mellon) in the semifinals on Monday at 8:00 am.
The duo of Caire and Tabb also advanced to the finals of the main doubles draw with wins over Bautista and Megan Cook, 8-3, and the team of Ellen Berlinghof and Yasmine Elamir (JHU) in the semifinals, 8-5. The fourth-seed tandem will take on the third-seeded pair of Staloch and Jennifer Chui on Monday.
In the "Blue" singles draw, senior Rhodes Proctor (Raleigh, N.C./St. Mary's School) and junior Meg Spalitta (New Orleans, La./Sacred Heart) advanced to the semifinals. Proctor picked up wins over Bridgewater's Marlena Pipkin (6-3, 6-1) in the round of 16 and UMW's Priscilla Jamison (7-5, 3-6, 6-2) in the semifinals, while Spalitta registered victories over Liz Guidon of DeSales, 6-0, 6-0, and JHU's Debbie Blass, 6-0, 6-0, to advance.
The Generals return to action on Monday for the final day of the ITA Southeast Regional.
