W&L's Tabb Wins Main Singles Draw at ITA Southeast Regional Championships

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Washington and Lee junior Katie Tabb (Minneapolis, Minn/Edina) captured the title of the main singles draw at the Wilson ITA Southeast Regional Women’s Tennis Championships on Monday morning. Tabb will now advance to the ITA Nationals held Oct. 11-14 in Mobile, Alabama.

The second-seeded Tabb notched victories over senior teammate Kelly Will (Holly Springs, N.C./Cary Academy) in the semifinals, 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore teammate Lauren Caire (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) in the finals, 6-3, 6-4. Caire advanced to the finals with a 6-1, 7-6 (2), win over top-seeded Amy Staloch of Carnegie Mellon in the semis.

In the main doubles draw, the tandem of Caire and Tabb fell in the finals to Staloch and Jennifer Chui, 9-7.

Junior Meg Spalitta (New Orleans, La./Sacred Heart) won the championship of the “Blue” singles draw with wins over Mary Washington’s Stacey Rickard, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3, in the semifinals and Salisbury’s Rachel Iouse, 6-1, 6-2, in the finals.

The Generals return to action on October 6 with a match against Johns Hopkins. The contest will be played at Carnegie Mellon and will begin at 1:00 pm.
