W&L's Caire Advances to NCAA Quarterfinals in Singles and Doubles

SAINT PETER, Minn. -- Washington and Lee sophomore Lauren Caire (Nashville, Tenn./Harpeth Hall) advanced to the quarterfinals of both the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships on Friday in Saint Peter, Minn.

In doubles, Caire teamed with junior Katie Tabb (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) to defeat Sallie Katter and Kasey Kuenzli of Linfield College, 6-1, 6-3. In singles, Caire topped Chapman University’s Elizabeth Lewis, 6-3, 6-3, in the first round and then downed Leslie Hansen of MIT, 6-3, 6-0, in the second round.

Additionally, senior Kelly Will (Holly Springs, N.C./Cary Academy) lost to sixth-seeded Marissa Lin of the University of Chicago, 6-2, 3-6, 1-6, in the opening round, while the second-seeded Tabb lost to Meghan McCooey of Tufts, 6-1, 5-7, 2-6, in the initial round.

Caire will take on Williams’ Grace Baljon in the quarterfinals of individual championship on Saturday morning. She and Tabb, the doubles bracket's second seed, will face the winner of Jenna Mezin and Hali Walther (Wellesley) vs. Jennifer Chui/Amy Staloch (Carnegie Mellon) on Saturday afternoon in the quarterfinals.
