
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- The Washington and Lee men's tennis team was in action on Saturday at the ITA Southeast Regional Singles and Doubles Championships hosted by the University of Mary Washington.
In singles play, first-year Ben Fass (Baltimore, Md./Friends) is the lone General to advance through the first day of competition and will take on Mary Washington's Randy Loden on Sunday morning for a berth to the quarterfinals. Fass posted a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Orlando Ferrer of Johns Hopkins in the first round. He then knocked off Dickinson's Ross Anstaett, 2-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the second round.
In doubles, the team of junior Alex Brooke (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) and senior Jamie McCardell (Cornwall, Vt./Episcopal) were the lone W&L duo to record a first round victory, defeating David Lupinetti and Marcus Robinson of Salisbury, 8-5. However, Brooke and McCardell were knocked off in the second round by Jason Dunn and John James of Mary Washington, 8-4.
