W&L Women's Swimming Defeats Randolph-Macon, 156-102

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee women’s swimming team defeated Randolph-Macon, 156-102, in a dual meet held at Cy Twombly Pool on Friday evening.

First-year Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York) led the W&L women as she tallied three first-place finishes. Senior Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Governor’s School), junior Sarah Simpson (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) and first-year Lauren Starnes (Harrison, Tenn./Girls Prep) won two events each.

Fredericks took the 100 breast (1:10.20), the 200 breast (2:31.62) and the 200 IM (2:17.57). Strachan was victorious in the 100 and 200 back with times of 1:01.71 and 2:11.84, respectively.

Simpson and Starnes combined to win four of the five freestyle events as Starnes took the 200 (2:00.10) and 500 (5:21.48) and Simpson captured the 50 (26.10) and 100 (56.59).

Sophomore Tess Hayden (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) completed W&L’s sweep of the freestyle events as she captured the 1000 free in 11:06.91.

W&L returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Sweet Briar for a 1:00 pm meet.
