W&L Women's Swimming Downs Sweet Briar, 151-101

SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- The W&L women’s swimming team, competing for the second day in a row, defeated ODAC-foe Sweet Briar, 151-101, on Saturday afternoon at Prothro Natatorium.

The Generals improved to 3-3 on the season and 2-0 in the ODAC, while SBC fell to 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in the ODAC.

Washington and Lee received wins from both the 400 medley relay team and the 400 free relay in addition to taking the top-three places in both the 800 free and the 100 back on its way to victory.

Seniors Lindsay Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Governor’s School) and Julianne Miata (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake), junior Jenna Worsham (Cumming, Ga./Welseyan) and first-year Dana Fredericks (Yorktown, Va./York) combined to win the 400 medley relay in a time of 4:43.67.

In the 400 free relay it was Strachan, Fredericks, junior Sarah Simpson (Charlotte, N.C./South Mecklenburg) and first-year Jocelyn Cassada (Charlotte, N.C./Country Day) winning in 4:15.88.

Cassada, Simpson, and junior Lynn Bazzel (Atlanta, Ga./Lovett) went 1-2-3 in the 800 free with times of 10:02.41, 10:12.48 and 10:12.53, respectively. In the 100 back it was sophomore Tess Hayden (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier), senior Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine’s) and first-year Joan Hudak (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet) finishing 1-2-3 in 1:13.89, 1:17.69 and 1:18.54, respectively.

The W&L women are off until November 22, when they take on Franklin & Marshall, Carnegie Mellon and Rochester at F&M. The meet is set to begin at 11:00 am.
