W&L Men's Swimming in Action on Day One of Emory Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee men’s swim team traveled to Emory University to take part in the two-day Emory Invitational.

Senior Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) captured the Generals’ lone individual title on Saturday, taking the 200 free in a time of 1:43.48. He also recorded a sixth-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:59.68.

Other individual highlights for the Generals included three swimmers notching top-10 finishes in the 50 free as junior Nick Talluri (Mount Airy, N.C./Mount Airy) took fourth (22.39), junior Brandon Barnds (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee) captured sixth (22.41) and senior Chris Diebold (Platte City, Mo./Lansdale Catholic) finished ninth (22.57). First-years Brian and Jeffrey Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) took fifth and sixth in the 100 fly with times of 53.46 and 53.49, respectively.

Team highlights included three relay teams taking second place. The 200 free relay team consisting of Talluri, the Stirling brothers and first-year Ian Dexter (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook) took second with a time of 1:29.22. The 400 medley relay team of Diebold, Brian Stirling, junior Ian Childers (Ona, W. Va./Greater Latrobe) and first-year Brad Harder (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) captured a runner-up finish in 3:43.33. The 800 free relay took second in 7:17.41 and was made up of Crook, Diebold, senior Brett Tatman (Marietta, Ga./George Walton) and first-year Ryan Hartman (Yorktown, Va./Grafton).

 W&L will wrap up competition at the Emory Invitational on Sunday.
