W&L Men's Swimming in Fourth Place After Day Three at BMC Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Washington and Lee men's swimming team resides in fourth place following the third day of competition at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships held at the Mecklenberg Aquatics Center on Friday.

Wingate now leads the event with 445.5 points, while Limestone (386.5), Tampa (379.0), W&L (361.0) and Savannah Art & Design (208) rounded out the Top 5.

The Generals had several NCAA "B" cut times on the day. First-year Chris Washnock (Greer, S.C./Greenville) earned a "B" cut in the 400 IM. He swam 4:07.24 in the prelims and then finished fifth in the finals with a time of 4:07.78.

First-years Brian Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) and Jeff Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery) both recorded "B" cut times in the 100 fly. Brian finished in seventh place (50.97) and Jeff placed eighth with a time of 51.09.

Senior Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell) finished fifth in the 200 free with a "B" cut time of 1:41.80 and swam on the 800 free relay team that finished fifth with a "B" cut time of 6:55.91 in the finals. The squad also notched a 6:53.95 in the prelims. Crook was joined on the relay squad by senior Brett Tatman (Marietta, Ga./Walton), senior Chris Diebold (Platte City, Mo./Landsdale Catholic) and first-year Ryan Hartman (Yorktown, Va./Grafton).

The final day of competition begins on Sunday morning.
