W&L Swimming in Action at NCAA Division III National Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Washington and Lee men’s and swimming teams both had athletes in action on day one of the NCAA Division III National Championships at the University of Minnesota on Wednesday.

Senior Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Governor’s School), W&L’s only women’s representative, recorded a time of 25.32 in preliminary round of the 50 free. She did not advance to the finals.

The men’s 200 medley relay team consisting of senior Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell), junior Brandon Barnds (Mission Hills, Kan./Shawnee) and first years Brian Stirling (Skilman, N.J./Montgomery) and Christopher Washnock (Greer, S.C./Greenville) placed 18th in the preliminary round with a time of 1:34.05 that did not qualify them for the final round.

Crook placed 33rd in the prelims in the 500 free with a time of 4:36.22, while Barnds and junior Nick Talluri (Mount Airy, N.C./Mount Airy) finished 43rd and 50th in the 50 free with times of 21.16 and 21.28, respectively. All three missed the cut for the finals.

W&L returns to action on Thursday for day two. Prelims are slated to begin at 11:00 am.
