Supporting Students

Scholarships help make a W&L education affordable for meritorious students, and help W&L attract the best students possible in an increasingly competitive financial aid environment.  Named scholarships may be either merit-based or need-based.

George Washington Scholars Program  -  $700,000  -  These named scholarships are merit-based and cover most of the cost of tuition, room & board for an undergraduate.  One student receives a reward to pay full tuition, room, board and books for one year.  The donor may state geographic or other allowable preferences for the type of student to receive the scholarship. Donors receive a letter from the University identifying the recipient and noting their accomplishments.

Named Scholarships with Preferences  -  $250,000  -  Scholarship endowments funded at this level offer the donor an opportunity to name the scholarship, and also to select some preferences about the type of student that will receive the scholarship.

Minimum for a Named Scholarship Endowment  -  $100,000  -  Scholarship endowments funded at this level offer the donor an opportunity to name the scholarship fund.  Larger endowments permid more students to benefit, and provide more competitive awards.

For more information on funding a named scholarship, contact Susan Cunningham, Director of Major Gifts, at 540-458-8489 or scunningham@wlu.edu.
