Supporting Faculty
The student-faculty relationship is the heart of a W&L education. Washington and Lee has many opportunities to support faculty and affirm the value of great teachers at the University.
Donors and faculty members speak about what the Lenfest Challenge means to them.
The Lenfest Challenge Gift is a $33 million gift from benefactor Gerry Lenfest '53 '55L to support competitive faculty compensation. The gift is contingent on W&L raising an additional $33 million for this purpose by December 31st, 2010.
There are several types of gifts that will help meet the Lenfest Challenge.
Endowed professorships are the highest honor W&L can bestow on its professors. Through the Lenfest Challenge Gerry Lenfest is offering added incentives for donors to endow professorships.
There are many ways to support and honor faculty at W&L in addition to answering the Lenfest Challenge. For example, donors can support visiting scholars, professional development funds, and other resources for teaching.
