The student-faculty relationship is the heart of a W&L education. Washington and Lee has many opportunities to support faculty and affirm the value of great teachers at the University.
For Faculty CompensationW&L's benefactor and alumnus Gerry Lenfest '53 '55L has given W&L a valuable opportunity to raise its faculty compensation to the mean of salary packages offered by its peer schools. The Lenfest Challenge Gift is a $33 million gift to an endowment in support of faculty compensation. The gift is contingent on W&L raising an additional $33 million for this cause by December 31st, 2010.
There are many ways to support and honor faculty at W&L in addition to answering the Lenfest Challenge. For example, donors can support professorships, visiting scholars, professional development funds, and library resources for teaching.
