Strengthening the Curriculum
Washington and Lee is introducing new programs to strengthen its curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate level. At the undergraduate level the University is creating a new Freshman Seminar program and introducing several interdisciplinary programs to broade and deepen its course offerings. In the law school the University is establishing a new third year curriculum called "Bridge to the Profession" that will transform the third year of law school into a more engaging and practical experience for students.
Funds supporting the Freshman Seminar Program help each freshman take a seminar in a small setting where students and a faculty member benefit from active, engaged learning and discussion.
Transforming the Third Year Law CurriculumWashington and Lee intends to become a leader in the national debate over how best to prepare law students for the practice of law by establishing a third-year curriculuar initiative called "Bridge to the Profession."
Endowments naming selected interdisciplinary programs support faculty appointments and interdepartmental academic initiatives in areas such as Law and Entrepreneurship, Environmental Studies, and Women's Studies.
Endowments supporting special academic initiatives help W&L create new learning opportunities for W&L students, such as the Science, Society & the Arts Program. This exciting symposium of student research and work is a great learning experience for students. The University held Science, Society & the Arts in 2004 and 2007, and intends to hold this event annually.
