W&L Women's Cross Country Wins W&L Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s cross country teams both finished first overall at the W&L Invitational held at the Dick Miller Cross Country Courses on Saturday morning. The men were first out of 11 teams, while the women were first out of 10 teams.

Senior Vance Berry (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Episcopal) paced the men by finishing third overall with a time of 29:34. First-year Matt Gossett (Atlanta, Ga./Wesleyan School) placed fourth with a time of 29:38, while senior Alex Jackson (Centreville, Va./Westfield) finished sixth overall (29:55). Junior Stuart Vassey (Peachtree City, Ga./Woodward Academy) rounded out the W&L finishers in the Top 10, placing ninth with a time of 30:03.

The W&L women were led by senior Elizabeth Webb (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield School), who won the race by crossing the finish line in 24:12. Junior Kat Telfeyan (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) completed the course in 24:36 to finish second overall, while senior Becca Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood) placed fourth overall with a time of 24:48. Junior Dorothy Todd (Watkinsville, Ga./Athens Academy) also finished in the Top 10, crossing the line in sixth place (25:08).

The W&L men will return to action on Saturday as they participate in the James Madison Invitational. The women will next compete on Sept. 27 at the Roy Griak Invitational held at the University of Minnesota.
