W&L Indoor Track & Field Competes at VMI Winter Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. - The Washington and Lee indoor track & field teams were in action against Division I, II and III teams across town at the VMI Winter Relays on Saturday. The Generals produced 16 Top 5 performances.

The women were led by sophomore Summer Lollie (Mesquite, Texas/Dr. John D Horn), who recorded a first-place mark among Div. III athletes in the triple jump (10.03 meters) and cleared 4.67 meters for a third-place finish in the long jump. Junior Rosemary Kelley (West Springfield, Va./West Springfield) placed first in the mile in a time of 6:03.51, while senior Tara Hildenbrand (Castroville, Texas/Medina Valley) notched a second-place mark in the 400 meters (65.83). Junior Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's), senior Stephanie Stelter (Magnolia, Texas/Concordia Lutheran) and first-year Natalie Stier (Alexandria, Va./Bishop Intern) placed second, third and fourth respectively in the 55 meter hurdles. Armstrong ran 9.49, Stelter finished in 9.60 and Stier crossed the line in 9.86.

On the men's side, first-year Robert Warneford-Thompson (Richmond, Va./Trinity Episcopal) led the way with a first-place finish among Div. III competitors in the mile (4:47.37). Junior Ryan Castle (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) recorded a second-place mark in the high hump (1.85 meters) and a fourth-place nod in the long jump (6.18 meters), while senior Ben Wilson (Commerce, Ga./Commerce) tossed 12.38 meters in the shot put for a third-place finish. Junior Brian Bondurant (Richmond, Va./Lloyd C. Bird) rounded out the men's top finishers with a fourth-place mark in triple jump (12.03 meters).

The Generals return to action next weekend as they compete at the Lafayette-Rider Winter Games in New York, N.Y. Events begin at 4:00 pm on Friday.
