

LEXINGTON, Va. --The Washington and Lee women's outdoor track and field team hosted the Generals Combined Events Challenge on Friday and Saturday. W&L competed in the heptathlon, which is a two-day, seven event competition and had one athlete qualify for nationals.
Senior Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) won the event and tallied 4,698 points, which is an automatic NCAA qualifying mark. Her point total currently ranks second in the country. On Friday, she ran 14.94 in the 100 hurdles, cleared 1.51 meters in the high jump, tossed 10.02 meters in the shot put and crossed the finish line in 26.03 in the 200 meters. On Saturday, Doornbos leaped 5.10 meters in the long jump, threw a personal-best 32.71 meters in the javelin and completed the 800 meters in 2:23.60.
Junior Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John's) also competed in the heptathlon and registered a point total of 3,916 for a third-place finish. Armstrong ran 17.04 in the 100 hurdles, cleared 1.30 meters in the high jump, tossed 10.79 meters in the shot put and finished the 200 meters in 28.17. On day two of the event, she leaped 4.98 meters in the long jump, tossed 28.22 meters in the javelin and ran a personal-best 2:27.85 in the 800 meters.
The Washington and Lee outdoor track and field teams return to competition on Sunday at the Duke Twilight Qualifier.
