EMORY, Va. -- The Washington and Lee baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak as it split a doubleheader with Emory & Henry on Thursday afternoon.

The Generals (15-11, 5-8 ODAC) took game one, 4-1, before the Wasps (8-24, 4-12) rallied for a 14-13 win in game two.

Junior righthander Chuck Davidson (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) threw seven strong innings for W&L in improving to 3-2 on the year. Davidson allowed one run on eight hits while walking one and striking out three. Junior catcher Will Lewis (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while senior second baseman Byron Peyster (Washington, D.C./Maret) and sophomore rightfielder Anthony Cardona (Lower Gwynedd, Pa./Chestnut Hill) were both 2-for-3 in the opener.

In the second game, the Generals entered the ninth inning trailing, 9-8, and managed to take a 13-9 lead before the Wasps responded with five runs in the bottom half to eke out the 14-13 win.

In the top of the ninth, Cardona tied the game, 9-9, with his third homerun of the season before Lewis hit his third of the homer season, a three-run shot, to give the Generals a 13-9 lead. However, the Wasps scored five runs in bottom of the frame to saddle junior righthander Jim Plantholt  (4-1) (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) with the loss and earn their fourth win in ODAC-play this season.

Senior centerfielder Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) was 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBI, while junior shortstop John Ditore (Seattle, Wash./Bishop Blanchet) finished 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI. First-year outfielder Mike Decembrino (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base, while both Cardona and Lewis had three hits in five at-bats with a homerun and three runs driven in.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a doubleheader. Game one will begin at 12:00 pm.
