GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s swimming teams sent a handful of swimmers to the Kenyon College Invitational in one last attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The women’s team sent senior Lindsey Strachan (Midlothian, Va./Governor’s School) and senior Susan Mahoney (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine’s), while the men sent first-years Frank Cullo (Sewickley, Pa./Central Catholic) and Brian Stirling (Skillman, N.J./Montgomery).

Strachan set a new school and ODAC-record in the 200 back with an NCAA “A” cut time of 2:02.67, while Mahoney posted “B” cut times in the 200 individual medley (2:10.71) and 200 breast (2:24.10). Both of Mahoney’s swims were also school and ODAC records.

Cullo broke the oldest standing school record on the men’s side with an NCAA “B” cut time of 16:07.31 in the 1650 free, while Stirling recorded a NCAA “B” cut time of 50.77 in the 100 fly. The previous record of 16:16.06 set by John Hudson in the 1650 free had stood since 1975.

Both the men’s and women’s swim teams will be in action as those swimmers that qualify will take part in the NCAA Championships held at the University of Minnesota. The NCAA meet is set to begin on March 18.
