The Institute for International Sport is holding a National Sportsmanship Day and Washington and Lee will participate on Saturday. The Generals will celebrate the day with home events in men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse and baseball.
National Sportsmanship Day is not simply a day to remind us to be good sports. NSD should help each of us, every day, put in place positive sportsmanship practices that will come to define how we learn, play and interact as people. In the 19-year history of National Sportsmanship Day, we have found that a positive first step toward good sportsmanship is engaging student-athletes in discussion about sportsmanship issues.
On Saturday, senior men's tennis player Alex Brooke (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain), junior women's tennis player Katie Harris (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's), junior midfielder Logan Bartlett (Summit, N.J./Pingry School), junior attacker Meredith Freeman (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) and senior second-baseman Byron Pyster (Washington, D.C./Maret) will read the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) sportsmanship statement prior to the home events that day.
The No. 19 men's tennis team takes on No. 16 Carnegie Mellon at 10:00 am, while the second-ranked women's tennis team plays third-ranked Carnegie Mellon at 12:00 pm. Baseball hosts ODAC-foe Roanoke for a double-header with the first game slated to begin at 12:00 pm. The 10th-ranked women's lacrosse team hosts Virginia Wesleyan at 1:00 pm, while the seventh-ranked men's lacrosse squad takes on Greensboro at 4:00 pm.
