
Washington and Lee collected the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Week award in women's lacrosse and men's tennis for the week ending March 22.
Sophomore midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) garnered the women's lacrosse honor after leading the 10th-ranked Generals to a 2-1 week. Mathews tied a career-high with five goals in a 14-13 double-overtime loss to Trinity (Conn.) on Tuesday. The following day, she totaled four goals and one assist in a 20-2 victory over Sweet Briar. W&L then wrapped up the week with a 13-7 win over Virginia Wesleyan, during which Mathews recorded three goals. On the season, Mathews has tallied a team-high 26 points on a team-best 21 goals and five assists.
First-year Jeremy Becht (Woodstock, Ga./Etowah) collected the honor in men's tennis after leading the Blue and White to a 2-1 week. W&L defeated Randolph, 9-0, on Monday, before topping Hampden-Sydney, 7-2, on Friday. The 19th ranked Generals then fell to 16th-ranked Carnegie Mellon, 8-1, on Saturday. In the win over H-SC, Becht won his singles match, 6-2, 6-2. He then teamed with classmate Michael Freeman (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) to defeat Zack Pack and Tal Covington, 8-3. In the loss to Carnegie Mellon, Becht was the only General to notch a singles victory on the day. He won the singles match, 6-3, 6-0, but fell in doubles action, 8-5. On the year, Becht is 17-5 in singles and 10-7 in doubles.
The Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team is currently 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference and returns to action on Tuesday as it hosts No. 4 Middlebury at 4:00 pm. The W&L men's tennis team is 10-3 overall and 8-0 in the ODAC. The Generals return to the courts on Tuesday as they travel to Lynchburg for a 3:30 pm match-up.
