Gavin Colliton, a 1984 graduate of Salisbury State, is in his ninth season as head golf coach at W&L. Colliton took over the program on an interim basis during the 2000 spring season and led the Generals to a second place finish at the ODAC Championships.

Colliton was then rewarded for his efforts, being named as the permanent head coach following the spring season. Six times his squads have finished second at the ODAC Championships, including each of the past two seasons.  Both years W&L narrowly missed an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships.  However, Nathaniel James was selected as an individual each of the past two seasons, with Colliton mentoring James to All-America honors both years.

Colliton has been a member of the University for nearly 20 years, serving as the offensive line coach for the football team and previously as assistant coach of the men's tennis team.

Colliton was a two-year starter in football at Salisbury State helping the Seagulls to the NCAA Division III semifinals as a senior. Colliton then joined Salisbury's coaching staff and helped the Seagulls to a NCAA quarterfinal appearance in 1985 and a championship game appearance in 1986.

Colliton, who earned his master's at Salisbury, then coached at Central Connecticut and Princeton before coming to W&L. Colliton helped Princeton earn a share of the 1989 Ivy League title.

Gavin and wife Patti reside in Lexington with their sons, John and Joe.
