David Detwiler is in his eighth season as the head men's tennis coach at Washington and Lee. He has been invoved with the Generals for a total of 11 years as director of the Duchossois Tennis Center and an assistant men's and women's tennis coach.
In his seven seasons in charge of the men's tennis program, Detwiler has engineered some of the finest seasons in school history. He has directed the Generals to a 106-41 cumulative record, seven-straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference titles and seven-consecutive trips to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Additionally, his teams have consistently ranked in the Division III Top 20 polls.
Detwiler's 2007 team set a school record for victories in a season by going 20-3 overall, claiming the ODAC Tournament Championship and receiving a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament.
In his time as an assistant women's tennis coach with the Generals, Detwiler helped lead W&L to a pair of ODAC titles and NCAA Tournament berths.
Before arriving at W&L, Detwiler spent eight years as the Tennis Director at Shadow Oaks Racquet Club in Greenville, S.C. He is a 1988 graduate of Furman University, where he was a four-year letterwinner and team captain as a senior. Detwiler won two Southern Conference singles titles and three doubles titles, while helping the team to a pair of league championships.
