Kristen McCandless is in her third season as assistant women's basketball coach at Washington and Lee. During her time with the Generals, she has helped W&L to a school-record 16 wins (16-11) in a season and three ODAC Tournament berths, including a trip to the semifinals in 2007.
McCandless came to Washington Lee in November of 2005 after earning her master's degree in Occupational Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. McCandless' previous coaching experiences came in the summer of 2002 when she was a basketball camp counselor and coach at Drew University, The College of New Jersey and Bloomsburg University.
McCandless had an exceptional academic and athletic career at The College of New Jersey, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of science degree in health education in 2003. On the hardwood, McCandless was a four-year letterwinner for Lions' basketball team. She was a two-time team captain, a two-time team MVP and a three-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) selection. As a sophomore, McCandless helped TCNJ to the conference championship and to the NCAA Elite Eight and was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Year as a junior. She concluded her career ranked fourth on the school's all-time steals list (206) and fifth in assists (275).
Off the court, McCandless was named to the Dean's List all four years and was a four-year member of the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Council. She also earned the 2003 National Association of Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) Student of the Year Award.
