Dan DesPlaines is in his second season as an assistant football and baseball coach at Washington and Lee. His first season with the football staff resulted in the Generals going 7-4 overall and winning their first conference championship in 21 years.
DesPlaines arrived at W&L following one season as the running backs coach at Ithaca College. There, he helped the Bombers to an 8-3 overall record, an Empire 8 Conference Championship and a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
A 2004 graduate of Trinity University of Texas, DesPlaines had a stellar football career that included Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year accolades as a senior when he threw for 2,967 yards and 25 touchdowns. A Second Team All-SCAC selecton as a junior, DesPlaines completed his playing career ranked first all-time at Trinity in career completion percentage (65.1) and efficiency rating (163.5). He also finished third all-time in career passing yards (6,062) and touchdown passes (58).
DesPlaines played on four NCAA Tournament teams at Trinity and made his first career start in the 2002 Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. He played two seasons of baseball for the Tigers before focusing on his football career.
