
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Washington and Lee golf team is tied for first place out of 18 teams following the opening day of the Guilford Tom O’Briant Invitational held at the Greensboro Country Club Farm Course in Greensboro, N.C.
The Generals fired an opening-round score of 288 (+4) and are tied for the top spot with Oglethorpe. Methodist (289), UNC-Chapel Hill’s “B” Team (293), Wesley (298), Randolph-Macon (298) and Hampden-Sydney (298) rounded out the top five.
Individually for W&L, senior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) carded an opening round score of 68 (-3) and is tied for first place with Ryan Holler of North Carolina.
Sophomore Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) shot a 72, sophomore Brad Watts (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) notched a 73, senior Steven Spivey (Martinsville, Va./Martinsville) fired a 75 and sophomore Kevin Trempe (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) registered an 86.
The Generals return to action on Tuesday with the second and final round of the Guilford Tom O’Briant Invitational.
