W&L Golf Resides in Third Place After First Round at Oglethorpe/Royal Lakes Classic



FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee golf team is in third place out of 12 teams following the first round of action at the Oglethorpe/Royal Lakes Fall Classic held at the Royal Lakes Golf Club in Flowery Branch, Ga., on Monday afternoon.

The Generals shot a 290 and trail only second-ranked Oglethorpe (285) and top-ranked Methodist (286). Guilford (292) and LaGrange (293) round out the Top 5 teams following day one.

Individually, freshman Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) is tied for second overall with a two-under par score of 69. He is one stroke behind leader Hap Kaufold of Oglethorpe and tied with Jeremy Evans of Emory.

Senior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) posted a 72, while sophomore Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) tallied a 73. Junior Andrew Green (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) carded a 76 and sophomore Brad Watts (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) rounded out the Generals’ scores with an 81.

Action continues Tuesday morning with the second and final round from the Royal Lakes Golf Club.
