W&L Golf in Seventh Place After Day One of Calloway Invitational



PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The Washington and Lee golf team currently resides in seventh place out of 16 teams following the first day of competition at the Callaway Collegiate Invitational held at the Callaway Gardens Golf Club in Pine Mountain, Ga.

The Generals shot an opening round 316 and trail individual leader University of Texas-Tyler by 15 strokes.  Emory is in second with a 308, followed by Methodist (310), Dardon Community College (311), Texas Lutheran (313) and LaGrange (313).

Individually, W&L is paced by senior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller), who shot an opening round 76.  Senior Steven Spivey (Martinsville, Va./Martinsville) carded a 79.  Sophomore Matt Langan (Prospect, Ky./Trinity) shot an 80, while freshman Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./ Westminster) and sophomore Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) shot 81 and 83, respectively.

Action continues on Tuesday with the final round from Callaway Gardens.
