W&L Men's Basketball Topples Guilford, 82-76, in Double-Overtime in ODAC Quarterfinals Senior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) scored a career-high 24 points in leading the eighth-seeded Washington and Lee men’s basketball team to an upset of top-seeded and 19th-ranked Guilford, 82-76 in double-overtime, in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament at the Salem Civic Center on Friday afternoon.
W&L Men's Basketball Downs Emory & Henry, 84-81, in Overtime Senior guard Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) scored a career-high 21 points and connected on the game-tying three pointer with 34 seconds left to force overtime, where Washington and Lee connected on 8-of-12 free throws to defeat Emory & Henry, 84-81, in the play-in round of the ODAC Tournament on Tuesday evening at the Warner Center.
May 26, 2009: McKelvey, Doornbos Highlight Award Winners at W&L Seniors Terrence McKelvey (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) and Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) headed the list of honorees at the annual Washington and Lee University Athletic Awards Ceremony on May 26 at W&L’s Lee Chapel. McKelvey was named the Pres Brown Outstanding Senior Male Athlete, while Doornbos was the female recipient of the award.
April 16, 2009: Numerous W&L Students Earn Scholar-Athlete Awards Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 172 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.
March 20, 2009: W&L Participating In National Sportsmanship Day The Institute for International Sport is holding a National Sportsmanship Day and Washington and Lee will participate on Saturday. The Generals will celebrate the day with home events in men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse and baseball.
Feb. 26, 2009: Two W&L Men's Basketball Players Honored by ODAC The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its men’s basketball postseason awards on Thursday and a pair of Generals were honored as senior forward Ben Heller (Houston, Texas/Lamar) was chosen as the ODAC/Farm Bureau Scholar-Athlete and junior forward Zac White (Baltimore, Md./Park School) was an honorable mention All-ODAC selection.
