Tommy Laurendine is in his first season in his second tour of duty with the Generals' football staff. He served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for the Generals from 1995-96, helping lead W&L to a 10-8-1 overall record.
Laurendine returns to W&L after serving as the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at the University of West Georgia during the 2006 season.
Laurendine has also been an offensive coordinator at Southern Arkansas University, where he served as an assistant coach from 2000-2006, and at the University of West Alabama (1997-2000). In six seasons as offensive coordinator, he guided the Southern Arkansas offense to 18 school records, several national statistical rankings and an NCAA Division II Tournament berth in 2003. Laurendine coached the quarterbacks and offensive line at Southern Arkansas and directed the quarterbacks and fullbacks at West Alabama.
Laurendine began his coaching career in 1990 as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Lenoir-Rhyne College. He later served as a graduate assistant coach at West Georgia from 1991-93, earning a master of education in physical education, and was the co-offensive coordinator at Northwest Whitfield High School in Dalton, Ga., from 1994-95.
Laurendine earned two letters as a member of the football team at Appalachian State University before transferring to Lenoir-Rhyne, where he earned a bachelor of arts in education in 1990. Laurendine received two letters at Lenoir-Rhyne, garnering South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors both seasons. He was named a finalist for the 1989 Domino's NAIA Player of the Year Award and is a 2007 inductee to the South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame.
