The men's cross country program dates back to 1914 and boasts a rich tradition of success that includes winning five state championships, eight Old Dominion Athletic Conference championships and the 1995 NCAA DIII Southeast Regional. In 2006, the team won its third-straight ODAC title with the help of five all-conference performers that all return for the 2007 season.

• Three Generals Compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships
  Washington and Lee juniors Michael Welsh (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma) and Becca Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood), and sophomore Kat Telfeyan (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) were all in action on Saturday morning at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by St. Olaf College.
• W&L Cross Country Competes at Regionals; Women Take Third, Men Place Fourth
  The Washington and Lee cross country teams competed at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional hosted by Christopher Newport University and held at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, Va. The women placed third out of 28 teams, while the men placed fourth out of 21 teams.
• W&L Cross Country Sweeps ODAC Championships
  The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s cross country teams swept the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championships for the fourth-straight year as both teams won their respective races on Saturday morning at the Dick Miller Cross Country Course.
• W&L Men's Cross Country In Action at Tribe Open
  The Washington and Lee men's cross country team competed at the Tribe Open hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., on Saturday morning.

Athletics Headlines

• 4/22/2008:  A Total Of 178 W&L Students Earn Scholar-Athlete Awards
  Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 178 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.
• 4/22/2008:  W&L Continues to Raise Funds for Wilson Field Renovations
  Through the efforts of former Washington and Lee athletes, nearly $700,000 has been raised since February 1 to meet the "Rise to the Challenge" campaign for the final funding of the Wilson Field renovation project. The alumni Generals are fast-approaching the Challenge goal of $1.5 million.
• 2/29/2008:  W&L Cross Country Teams Garner Academic Recognition
  The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) recently released its 2007 All-Academic Cross Country Teams and both the Washington and Lee men's and women's teams were honored.
• 9/13/2007:  W&L Cross Country Teams Break into Top 5 in the Region
  The 2007 Washington and Lee men's and women's cross country teams were picked by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the Division III Preseason Regional rankings. The women's team was selected third in the South/Southeast Regional rankings, while the men's team was picked fifth.
• 9/10/2007:  Michael Welsh Named ODAC Cross Country Runner of the Week
  Washington and Lee junior cross country runner Michael Welsh (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma) has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week ending September 9.
• 8/27/2007:  W&L Cross Country Teams Picked to Win ODAC Title
  The Old Dominion Athletic Conference released its 2007 preseason coaches poll on Monday afternoon and the Washington and Lee men's and women's teams were both chosen as the favorites to win the crown.
