Field Hockey is among the newest sport offerings at Washington and Lee, playing its first season as a full varsity program in 2001. In a short period of time, the Generals have become one of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's top teams, winning the 2005 ODAC title and participating in the NCAA Division III Tournament. Over the past three seasons, W&L has gone 40-19 overall and 19-4 in ODAC regular-season play. The Generals play their home games on the W&L Turf Field, which served as the host site of the 2005 NCAA Division III Final Four.

  The W&L field hockey team saw its season come to an end as it dropped a 6-0 decision to the top-seeded Royals of Eastern Mennonite in the semifinals of the ODAC tournament on Wednesday evening.

  The W&L field hockey team, behind a balanced offensive attack and a stout defense, defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 5-1, on Saturday, to advance to the semifinal round of the ODAC Tournament.

  The W&L field hockey team, playing in its last regular season game, received two goals and an assist from junior Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John’s) on its way to upsetting No. 17 Christopher Newport, 3-2 in overtime, on Sunday afternoon.
• Armstrong Scores Four Times, W&L Field Hockey Beats Sweet Briar, 5-1
  Sallie Armstrong’s (Houston, Texas/St. John’s) career day highlighted what was a 5-1 victory for the W&L field hockey team over visiting Sweet Briar.

Athletics Headlines

• April 16, 2009: Numerous W&L Students Earn Scholar-Athlete Awards
  Washington and Lee Director of Athletics Jan Hathorn has announced that 172 students earned Scholar-Athlete awards during the recently completed winter term. The students are all members of W&L athletic teams and achieved a grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.500.
• March 20, 2009: W&L Participating In National Sportsmanship Day
  The Institute for International Sport is holding a National Sportsmanship Day and Washington and Lee will participate on Saturday. The Generals will celebrate the day with home events in men's and women's tennis, men's and women's lacrosse and baseball.
• March 13, 2009: NFHCA Recognizes W&L Field Hockey
  The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) recently announced its 2008 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad and Washington and Lee had several team members honored.
• March 9, 2009: W&L Field Hockey Honored by NFHCA
  The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2008 Division III National Academic Team Award winners and Washington and Lee was among those honored.
