Washington and Lee has one of the finest men's swimming programs in Division III. The Generals have been a fixture in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships over the years and finished eighth at the 2008 NCAA Championship event. Over the years, W&L swimmers have claimed five individual NCAA Championships and been named All-American a staggering 149 times since 1969. The Generals have had at least one All-America swimmer for each of the past 34 seasons and six swimmers garnered All-America recognition last season alone. The 2007-08 season was highlighted by Alex Sweet '08, who won the NCAA Championship in the 50 freestyle with a championship record time. Sweet also participated in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 50 free.
