An Ideal Setting

Cosmopolitan. Bohemian. Eclectic. Three words that accurately describe the 15,000 citizens of the Lexington community. From art galleries and live music to theater and coffee houses, you will find an outlet for any cultural interest you can imagine in this town.

If the outdoors are more your style, you will love canoeing down the Maury River or hiking up to the peak of House Mountain, the backdrop of our campus. Sports more your thing? We’ve got two golf courses in the Lexington area, both of which offer special discounts for W&L students. Not a golfer? Try mountain biking on some of the trails through campus or grappling with our climbing wall.

Town-gown relations could not be stronger than those our students experience with the Lexington community. From shopping to dining and bookstores to music stores, you will find that our offerings are every bit as enticing as those in a larger city, but with the small town charm and convenience that only our historic downtown can offer. Lexington may also be the only place left in the nation where you can write a personal check without giving a blood sample.

It is these little things that make Lexington the unique community that, even after graduation, our students continue to call home. To learn more about Lexington, Virginia click here.
