LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Washington and Lee women's swim team won both of its ODAC meets on Friday evening at Cy Twombly Pool. The Generals downed Emory & Henry, 71-12, and defeated Sweet Briar, 55-39.
The Generals swept both relay events and won several individual events. The team of seniors Amy Roberson (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches) and Colette Moryan (Westfield, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy), sophomore Lynn Bazzel (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and freshman Tara O'Neil (Glen Rock, N.J./Immaculate Heart) won the 200 medley relay in a meet-record time of 2:00.56. Roberson also teamed up with freshmen Tess Hayden (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) and Jackie Smith (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood), and sophomore Katie Boiles (Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches) to win the 200 free relay in a meet-record time of 1:47.31.
In the individual events, Smith took first and set a new meet record in the 100 fly (1:02.30) and Hayden was the first finisher in the 100 free (58:26). Junior Julianne Miata (Valhalla, N.Y./Westlake) racked up two first-place finishes, taking gold in the 500 free (5:46.40) and setting a new meet record in the 200 IM (2:20.46).
The Generals return to action on Saturday when they travel to Gettysburg to take on the Bullets and Bryn Mawr at 2:00 pm.
