
MADISON, N.J. – Ursinus senior guard Nick Shattuck tallied a game-high 23 points to lift the Bears to a 79-74 victory over Washington and Lee in the consolation game of the Drew University Rose City Men’s Basketball Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Generals (0-2) led 38-34 at halftime and surged to a 49-43 advantage with 11:52 remaining in the game. Ursinus used an 8-0 run take a 51-49 lead with 8:58 left, but the Generals fought back to tie the game at 57-57 with 6:10 remaining. However, the Bears used a 10-0 run over the next 2:39 to assume a 67-57 lead with 3:31 to play. W&L cut it to a five-point game on several occasions in the final minutes, but could get no closer as Ursinus improved to 1-1 on the season.
Senior forward Femi Kusimo (Cross Lanes, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) paced four Generals in double-figures with 17 points and nine rebounds, while senior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) scored 15 points and grabbed four boards. Junior guard Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./Holy Angels) and junior forward Kirk Jones (Maple Glenn, Pa./Germantown Academy) chipped in 10 points apiece and junior guard Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) added nine points.
Sophomore guard Matt Hilton supplemented Shattuck’s effort with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Junior guard John Noonan tallied 17 points, including 15 in the decisive second half, while sophomore guard Remy Cousart posted 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Washington and Lee returns to action on Tuesday as it travels to Atlanta, Ga., for a 7:00 pm game at Emory University.
