W&L Track and Field Competes at Marietta Invitational

The Washington and Lee men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams competed in the Marietta Invitational on Saturday morning. The women finished third out of seven teams, while the men finished fifth out of six teams. The Generals had six first-place finishes and 16 Top 3 finishes.

On the men’s side, W&L was led by sophomore Billy Billington (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy), who finished first in the shot put (45’5.75”) and in the weight throw (48’ 2.5”). Junior Vance Berry (Porte Verde, Fla./Episcopal) crossed the line at 4:33.67 for a second-place finish in the mile.

For the women, the Blue and White were paced by junior Becca Taylor (Hamilton, Ohio/Edgewood), who notched two first-place finishes. Taylor crossed the tape in 5:24.90 in the mile and completed the 1000 meters in 3:19.38.  Sophomore Dorothy Todd (Watkinsville, Ga./Athens Academy) recorded two second-place finishes.  Todd placed second in the 800 meters (2:29.02) and in the mile (5:33.38).

Additionally, junior Elizabeth Webb (Middlebury, Va./Wakefield) placed first in the 5000 meters (18:01.18).  Junior Stacey Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) also finished first in the 300 meters in a time of 42.98, while freshman Summer Lollie (Mesquite, Texas./Dr. John D Horn) placed second in the 55 meters (7.66).

Washington and Lee returns to action on Friday when it competes at the Liberty On Track Open at 4:00 pm.
