W&L Track & Field In Action at CNU’s Vince Brown Invite

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Washington and Lee indoor track & field teams competed against Division I, II and III competitors at the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport on Saturday.

Sophomore Dorothy Todd (Watkinsville, Ga./Athens Academy) led the W&L women, finishing first among Division III opponents in the 800 meters (2:28.69) and second in DIII in the mile with a personal-best time of 5:26.19. Junior Stacey Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) and freshman Summer Lollie (Mesquite, Texas./Dr. John D Horn) also posted solid performances for W&L. Doornbos was the second DIII finisher in the 400 meters (60.92) and the fourth DIII finisher in the 55 meters (7.66), while Lollie record a 34’14.1” mark in the triple jump, which was good enough for third among Division III participants.

On the men’s side, junior Michael Welsh (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma) was the fourth Division III runner to cross in the mile, running a personal-best time of 4:33.31. Junior Alex Jackson (Centreville, Va./Westfield) finished not far behind Welsh, taking fifth with a time of 4:34.44. Junior Sean Hurdiss (Missouri City, Texas/Elkins) and freshman Jeff Giordano (Slidell, La./Jesuit) also recorded a personal-best time apiece. Hurdiss ran the 200 meters in a time of 23.79, while Giordano posted a time of 6.67 in the 55 meters.

The Generals return to action on Feb. 15 at the Lafayette Invitational, which will be held at the New York City Amory in New York, N.Y.
