NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Washington and Lee indoor track & field teams competed against Division I, II and III competitors at the Lafayette Invitational held at the New York City Armory on Friday. The Generals had eight Top 10 finishes and set seven school records.

Junior Elizabeth Webb (Middleburg, Va./Wakefield) led the W&L women, finishing first among Division III opponents in the mile (5:03.83), which is an NCAA national qualifying time and a school and ODAC record. Webb also finished second in the 800 meters with an ODAC-leading time of 2:20.46 to set another school record.

Junior Stacey Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) and freshman Summer Lollie (Mesquite, Texas./Dr. John D Horn) also posted solid performances for W&L and broke one school record twice in the same event. Doornbos was the first DIII finisher in the long jump with a leap of 17’1.50” and set a school record in the 400 meters (59.58) for a fourth-place finish. Doornbos crossed the tape in 26.77 in the 200 meters to set another school record. That time was then eclipsed by freshman Summer Lollie (Mexquite, Texas/Dr. John D Horn), who finished in 26.70. Lollie set another school record in the 60 meters (8.22).

On the men’s side, sophomore Billy Billington (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) set a school record in the 35-pound weight throw with an ODAC-leading toss of 54’. Junior Vance Berry (Porte Vedra, Fla./Episcopal) recorded a personal-best time of 4:26.65 in the mile, while junior Michael Welsh (Tullahoma, Tenn./Tullahoma) was the fourth Division III runner to cross in the 3000 meters, running 8:55.10. Freshman Jeff Giordano (Slidell, La./Jesuit) also set a school record in the 200 meters (23.13).

The Generals return to action on Feb. 29 for the ODAC Championships, which will be held at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., at 4:00 pm.
