W&L Track and Field In Action at Liberty Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Washington and Lee outdoor track and field teams kicked off the first day of the Asics Liberty Invitational. The Generals had athletes compete in the heptathlon and they currently stand in third, fourth and ninth place.

Junior Stacy Doornbos (Roswell, Ga./Lassiter) led the Generals with a third-place finish in the heptathlon with 2,799 points. In the 100 hurdles, she eclipsed the previous school record, running 15.31. She also leaped 5’1” in the high jump, threw 30’7.5” in the shot put and finished the 200 meters in a time of 25.58.

Sophomore Maggie Sutherland (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley) placed sixth in the heptathlon, totaling 2,577 points. She also broke the previous 100 hurdles record, crossing in 15.32. Sutherland then cleared 4’10.5” in the high jump before tossing 30’7” in the shot put. She also posted a time of 27.36 in the 200 meters.

Sophomore Sallie Armstrong (Houston, Texas/St. John’s) placed ninth in the heptathlon with 2,302 points. Armstrong ran 16.50 in the 100 hurdles, jumped 4’6” in the high jump, threw 3’7.25” in the shot put and recorded a time of 27.61 in the 200.

Washington and Lee’s track and field teams return to action on Saturday for the second day of the Liberty Invitational at 9:30 am.
