Generals Golf Ties for Fourth at the Guilford/Tom O’Briant Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Washington and Lee golf team finished in a fourth-place tie out of 18 teams at the Guilford Tom O’Briant Invitational held at the Greensboro Country Club Farm Course in Greensboro, N.C.

The Generals shot a 288-306--594 and finished tied with Emory (594), Hampden-Sydney (594) and UNC-Greensboro (594). Oglethorpe finished as the team champion with a total of 579 and was followed by UNC-Chapel Hill’s “B” Team (586) in second place and Methodist (590) in third place.

Individually for W&L, senior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller) finished as the medalist with a seven-under-par score of 68-67--135. James’ total was five strokes better than the second-place finisher, Jeremy Evans of Emory (70-70-140).

Sophomore Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) carded a score of 72-76--148, while sophomore Brad Watts (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) notched a 73-84--157. Senior Steven Spivey (Martinsville, Va./Martinsville) fired a 75-83--158 and sophomore Kevin Trempe (Springfield, Ohio/Catholic Central) rounded out the Generals’ individuals with an 86-80--166.

The Generals return to action on Saturday as they take part in the two-day University of Pennsylvania Big Five Classic held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
