FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. – The Washington and Lee golf team finished in sixth place out of 12 teams at the Oglethorpe/Royal Lakes Fall Classic held at the Royal Lakes Golf Club in Flowery Branch, Ga., on Monday and Tuesday.
The Generals carded a two-day score of 290-305—595 and trailed team champion Guilford by 25 strokes (292-278—570). Oglethorpe finished second with a 285-287—572 and was followed by Methodist in third (286-296—582), Huntingdon in fourth (296-287—583) and LaGrange in fifth (293-299—592).
Individually, W&L was led by senior Nathaniel James (Keller, Texas/Keller), who tied for seventh place with a three-over par score of 72-73—145. Guilford freshman Jonathan Wade was the medallist, finishing with a 72-65—137.
Freshman Tim Gavrich (Avon, Conn./Westminster) shot a 69-78—147, while sophomore Joe Gibson (Atlanta, Ga./Westminster) fired a two-day score of 73-78—151. Sophomore Brad Watts (Sewickley, Pa./Sewickley Academy) and junior Andrew Green (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) both tallied scores of 157. Watts shot an 81-76—157, while Green notched a 76-81—157.
Washington and Lee will now break for the winter, before resuming its schedule on March 3-4 at the Calloway Collegiate Invitational.
