
Guilford earned five first-place votes and 93 total points as the top pick in the poll, followed by Virginia Wesleyan, who totaled three first-place votes and 88 points, and Hampden-Sydney, who rounded out the Top 3 with 83 points and a pair of first-place selections. Roanoke (71), Randolph-Macon (56), Emory & Henry (47), W&L (37), Bridgewater (37), Eastern Mennonite (22) and Lynchburg (15) complete the poll.
W&L returns five of its top six scorers in 2007-08, including senior forward Greg Bienemann (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), who led the team in scoring (17.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.8 ppg) as he earned First Team All-ODAC last season.
Also returning for the Blue and White will be forward Femi Kusimo (Cross Lanes, W.Va./Charleston Catholic) and juniors Kirk Jones (Maple Glenn, Pa./ Germantown Academy), Chris McHugh (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Isaiah Goodman (Richfield, Minn./ Holy Angels). Kusimo averaged 10.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game, and he shot a school-record 61.5 percent from the floor. Jones averaged 6.9 points per game, McHugh contributed 6.6 points per outing and Goodman averaged 5.9 points per game.
W&L finished the 2006-07 campaign with an 11-14 overall record and advanced to the ODAC Tournament for the first time since 2002-03. The Generals open the 2007-08 season against Drew University at the Rose City Classic on Nov. 16 at 8:00 pm.
